Abstract As the bacterial etiologic agent causing citrus canker (CBC), Xanthomonas citri subsp. (Xcc) seriously impacts plantation and fruit production globally. In an earlier study, we demonstrated that CsBZIP40 can positively impact CBC resistance in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis). However, mechanistic basis for protective benefits conferred by is yet to be delineated. Here, show regulates reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis transgenic overexpressing CsBZIP40. directly binds TGA-box of CsWRKY43 promoter repress its transcriptional activity. overexpression induces susceptibility oranges. contrast, inhibition produces strong CBC. W-boxes CsPrx53 CsSOD13 promoters regulate activities these antioxidant enzymes, resulting negative regulation ROS plants. CsPrx53/CsSOD13 knockdown enhances accumulation resistance.
